Disney Speeds Up Monstropolis Construction with Monster-Themed Details
The transformation of Disney's Hollywood Studios is picking up speed with the construction of Monstropolis, a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land scheduled to open in 2027.
Disney has taken fans behind the scenes, revealing that crews are preparing to add detailed finishes to the buildings within weeks. These features will include monster characteristics such as teeth, eyes, horns, and other unusual elements.
The Imagineers are testing textures before applying them to the actual structures, giving visitors another milestone to watch as 2027 gets closer.
The central street of Monstropolis will be called Dark Avenue, which will lead guests through the new area and connect several experiences, including Harryhausen's, Archie's Scare Pig Pizza, stores, the Welcome to Monstropolis show, and the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Factory coaster.
The biggest draw for fans will almost certainly be waiting farther down Dark Avenue: Disney's New Coaster Will Take Guests Into the Door Vault, a suspended coaster system inspired by the door vault sequence from Monsters, Inc. (2001).
