Disney Stands by Abu Dhabi Theme Park Despite Concerns Over Inclusivity

Disney's upcoming seventh theme park in Abu Dhabi has been a topic of concern for some fans, but according to former CEO Bob Iger, the company is 'fully committed' to the project. In a new documentary on Disney+, Iger explains why they chose the location.

In an interview for the feature-length film Worldbuilders, Iger described Abu Dhabi as 'an oasis of the world,' where 'the potential and dreams, its design ethic' are 'only pointing to the future in so many different ways with great enthusiasm and tremendous optimism.' The new theme park will be located on Yas Island and will combine Disney's iconic stories and characters with Abu Dhabi's culture and architecture.

The project has raised concerns among some fans due to Disney's partnership with a government that does not align with the company's dedication to inclusivity. In the UAE, LGBTQIA+ individuals can face imprisonment. However, Iger emphasized their commitment to the project, stating 'we love what Abu Dhabi stands for.'

The new theme park will be developed and built by Miral, with Disney Imagineers overseeing the creative design. The resort is expected to have unique attractions, experiences, hotels, dining, and retail options.
