Disney Sticks with Abu Dhabi Theme Park Plans Despite Global Challenges
During Disney's recent earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston addressed concerns about the company's new theme park in Abu Dhabi. The project has faced challenges due to rising fuel costs and travel advisories related to the Middle East conflict.
Despite these issues, Disney is 'fully committed' to bringing the Abu Dhabi concept to life. Johnston emphasized that forward bookings for Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line are healthy, but not immune to external factors such as macros and fuel prices.
The new theme park in Abu Dhabi was announced in May 2025 and aims to tap into the growing Middle East tourism market. Disney sees it as a long-term investment with potential benefits from guests from Africa and South Asia.
