Disney Sued Over Alleged Abuse of Child Star on Set
Former Disney child star Raquel Lee has filed a lawsuit against the entertainment giant alleging negligence and failure to protect her from an unnamed male crew member who allegedly sexually assaulted her during filming of the 2001 Disney Channel Original Movie, The Poof Point.
Lee, then 14 years old, claims the employee groomed and abused her repeatedly while working on the film in Salt Lake City. According to the complaint, he made sexually explicit jokes around minors and harassed Lee 'in plain view of the cast and crew,' yet no one at Disney intervened.
The lawsuit alleges that warning signs were visible throughout production, and executives responded to Lee's subsequent behavioral changes by calling her 'out of control' and accusing her of engaging in sexual activity with a crew member. The company canceled her role in another planned production.
Lee is represented by attorneys Doug Wigdor and Jane Kim, who have handled several high-profile sexual-misconduct cases, including representing Cassie Ventura in her lawsuit against Sean 'Diddy' Combs and women who accused Harvey Weinstein of misconduct.
