Disney Sues FCC Over Retaliatory Investigation into ABC Broadcasts
The Walt Disney Company has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), alleging that the agency is retaliating against its ABC television stations by investigating their broadcasts and challenging their licenses.
The lawsuit, filed in the DC District Court on Tuesday, claims that the FCC's actions are an 'extraordinary assault on free speech.'
Disney alleges that the FCC has been investigating ABC's talk show 'The View' for allegedly breaching equal time requirements after a Democratic candidate appeared on the program.
The company also claims that it has had to modify its programming due to pressure from the FCC, including becoming more cautious in booking political candidates and refraining from airing certain video clips out of fear of further scrutiny.
