The Walt Disney Company and TikTok have struck a deal that will allow social media creators to make short-form videos based on Disney's brands, including Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar.

The partnership, which is being billed as a 'first-of-its-kind' deal, will give TikTok users access to Disney assets that can be uploaded and shared on both TikTok and Disney+.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. However, the feature is expected to roll out in the United States within the coming months and then expand to other countries.

The deal marks one of the biggest moves for Disney's new CEO, Josh D'Amaro, who assumed the role in March and is tasked with future-proofing the company.

In a call with analysts, D'Amaro said that the addition of short-form video 'creates a more complete experience' on Disney+ and ideally makes users stay longer and engage more, helping them discover new shows.
