Disney Taps TikTokers to Bring Iconic Characters to Short-Form Video
The Walt Disney Company is partnering with TikTok creators to develop short-form content featuring its iconic characters. According to Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro, a select batch of popular TikTokers will be granted access to the company's intellectual property (IP), including Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and FX.
The creators will produce videos for the 'Verts' vertical video hub on Disney+, which will feature curated content from these top-tier talents. Asad Ayaz, Disney’s Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, emphasized that 'the best storytellers are fans first,' highlighting the company's desire to bridge traditional studio storytelling with modern fan creativity.
Disney aims to nurture this talent by offering exclusive access to events, studio assets, and distribution across both social feeds and streaming platforms. The program will help the company create free programming for its subscribers while tapping into TikTok's massive user base of over 1 billion people worldwide.
The move is seen as a strategic shift in how legacy studios view creator culture and platform engagement, with Disney recognizing the growing importance of short-form video in modern entertainment. However, it remains to be seen whether this approach will effectively attract new subscribers or simply feed the 'endless scroll'.
