Disney Theme Parks Undergo Massive Refurbishment Efforts
The Walt Disney Company is embarking on a massive refurbishment effort at its theme parks in Florida, particularly at the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios. The changes are aimed at modernizing various attractions and lands.
At the Magic Kingdom, Carousel of Progress has been closed since July 6th for refurbishment, with an expected reopening date sometime in 2027. This classic attraction will feature revamped scenes to reflect more recent history, including a Walt Disney animatronic introduction. Meanwhile, Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island have permanently closed as part of the Rivers of America's redevelopment into the new Cars area, Piston Peak.
The Vacation Fun center at Disney's Hollywood Studios has been closed for refurbishment since August 9th, with no official reopening date announced. This is the second closure this year for the attraction, which serves as an Annual Passholder magnet distribution center until September 24th. The Animation Courtyard land has also undergone significant changes, including the closure of Star Wars Launch Bay and character meet-and-greets in September 2025.
