Disney to Release Exclusive IMAX Documentary on Stephen Curry's Historic Milestone

Disney has announced plans to distribute an exclusive IMAX documentary film called 'Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry' in theaters starting October 9th, 2026. The film captures the journey of four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP Stephen Curry as he approaches his record-extending 4,000th career three-pointer. The documentary weaves together Curry's generational artistry with perspectives from other innovative artists, including Viola Davis, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith, and Jon Batiste.

The film is produced by IMAX, Religion of Sports, and Unanimous Media in association with NBA Entertainment. Director Gotham Chopra, co-founder of Religion of Sports, aimed to capture the creativity and discipline that drives Curry's performance on the court. The documentary utilized 21 IMAX-certified cameras to record the urgency and emotion surrounding this historic single day and game.

Curry became the first player in NBA history to reach the milestone of 4,000 career three-pointers during a home game against the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center. The Warriors won the game 130-104.
