Disney Unveils Avatar Destination Boat Ride, Raises Questions on Similarity to Na'vi River Journey
Disney has unveiled a first look at an upcoming attraction for its Avatar Destination in Disney California Adventure, a boat ride that may share similarities with Na'vi River Journey at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The model of the ride system, revealed at D23, shows boats seating at least 30 guests each, significantly more than the 6-8 people accommodated by the Florida park's attraction.
The model, which also showcases the Disneyland Monorail running adjacent to this ride in its proposed northeast corner location, has sparked speculation among Disney theme park fans that it might utilize a similar ride system as Pirates of the Caribbean at Shanghai Disneyland. This ride allows for more movement than just moving straight ahead, potentially indicating a unique experience.
Ryan McCaffrey, IGN's executive editor of previews and host of Podcast Unlocked, had no comment on this new attraction in his official capacity. The Disney Experiences panel at D23 may provide further details about the Avatar Destination and its various components.
