Disney Unveils Dark Avenue for Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios
Walt Disney Imagineers have announced Dark Avenue for Monstropolis in Disney's Hollywood Studios, the main street leading to the Monsters, Inc. factory. The land will feature a suspended door coaster and various restaurants, shopping, and more.
The Imagineers created a sensible logic to Monstropolis by incorporating parts of different eras of time to develop the city. They took details from the films and put them into context, creating spaces influenced by the animated movies.
Since monsters are heavy creatures, the Imagineers worked with Pixar to determine weight capacity and supports for the buildings. They also created differently-sized doors to accommodate various monster sizes.
The windows of Monstropolis have Monster details like teeth, horns, and eyes, adding depth and immersion into the story. The Imagineers used realistic mock-ups to ensure that no details were missed during construction.
