Disney Unveils Encanto Ride Vehicle, Teases Immersive Experience
A recent D23 Fan Event in Anaheim has revealed details about the upcoming Encanto attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom, which is expected to open in 2027. Shipping records and D23 reveal a pattern of large shipments from Zierer Karussell, a German ride manufacturer, arriving at Walt Disney Imagineering since July. The deliveries are described as 'Darkride Pico Project,' with combined weights running into the tens of thousands of kilograms.
The Encanto ride vehicle is designed for two rows, seating four guests per row for a total of eight per vehicle. The interior is themed after Casa Madrigal from the film and features vibrant colors. Zierer's Advanced Dark Ride system uses a rail-guided vehicle and track system that can move in five directions, giving it 5 degrees of freedom (DOF). This includes yaw, pitch, roll, and simulated motion.
The combination of pitch, yaw, and roll capabilities allows the vehicle to sync with physical environments and digital screen content. Disney's story for the attraction features guests exploring Antonio's rainforest room inside the Casita, suggesting a ride experience that can spin, pitch, and roll in sync with surrounding environments could be effective.
