Disney Unveils Sweeping Expansions for Florida Theme Parks
Walt Disney World is embarking on its most ambitious expansion yet. The Florida theme park resort has announced a slate of new attractions and lands that will transform its four parks, including Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom.
The largest addition is Villains Land at Magic Kingdom, which will rival Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in scale. The land's story begins with a corrupted Wishing Well spreading poisoned magic throughout the area, drawing in Disney villains like Cruella, the Evil Queen, and Dr. Facilier. Two attractions will be part of Villains Land: a Maleficent-inspired roller coaster and a dark ride hosted by the Magic Mirror featuring various Disney villains.
Another major update at Magic Kingdom is Piston Peak, a Cars-themed area coming to Frontierland. The area will feature two rides: Cars Ridge Run Rally, where riders will speed over rugged terrain, including snow-capped mountains and geysers, in vehicles designed to rock, bump, and drop like off-road vehicles; and Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along*, a ride geared towards younger guests.
Epcot is also getting an update with the first major overhaul of Spaceship Earth in nearly 20 years. The attraction will shift its focus from space travel to human connection, while expanding its storyline into the internet age and beyond. Another new addition at Epcot is a Dreamfinder and Figment adventure, bringing back the beloved character after decades away.
At Hollywood Studios, Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc.-themed land, will open in 2027 with 'Welcome to Monstropolis', a stage show hosted by Mike and Sulley; quick-service restaurant Archie's Scare Pig Pizza; table-service Harryhausen's restaurant; merchandise location Scareporium; and a coaster inspired by the door vault sequence from 'Monsters, Inc.'
Disney's Animal Kingdom is getting an update with Tropical Americas, replacing DinoLand U.S.A. The area will feature Pueblo Esperanza and El Carrusel de los Animalito, a carousel featuring 22 hand-carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories; Encanto attraction Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto, where guests will enter the Madrigal family's Casita as Antonio celebrates his ability to communicate with animals; and Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, an original attraction set inside a Maya temple.
