Disney World Announces Big Changes Amid Widespread Closures
Disney World has been abuzz with new announcements and refurbishments this week. The company revealed plans for next year's EPCOT festivals, discounts for 2027, and new After Hours event dates.
However, visitors to the parks may be disappointed to find that several attractions and areas are currently closed. At Magic Kingdom, the Carousel of Progress is undergoing a major refurbishment, which will include revamping its scenes to make them more modern and adding a new Walt Disney animatronic. The attraction is expected to reopen in 2027.
The Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom are permanently closed to make way for the new Cars area, Piston Peak National Park. The construction walls have gone up in the area, and the structures on Tom Sawyer Island have been demolished.
In Disney's Hollywood Studios, Vacation Fun is closing for the second time this year on Sunday, August 9th. Muppets Courtyard has also been walled off for construction on the new Monsters, Inc. land.
