Disney World Erases Four Beloved Holiday Traditions From Christmas Celebrations
Walt Disney World's 56th Christmas season has arrived, but it will be different from previous years. Several beloved holiday traditions have been permanently removed, marking a significant change to the resort's festive atmosphere.
The most notable loss is the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights display, which once transformed Magic Kingdom's centerpiece into a breathtaking spectacle of thousands of shimmering lights. After the 2019 holiday season, Disney replaced it with the Frozen Holiday Surprise castle show, but some fans still miss the physical lights that covered the park icon.
Another tradition gone is the DinoLand Santa meet-and-greet at Animal Kingdom, which was a staple during the holiday season since its debut. The closure of DinoLand U.S.A. in February 2026 paved the way for the transformation into Tropical Americas, but it also eliminated this cherished experience.
Guests visiting Hollywood Studios will no longer see the quirky Muppets Courtyard Christmas decorations, which were a hallmark of the area's festive spirit. The courtyard itself was permanently closed on June 8, 2025, to make way for the upcoming Monstropolis area based on Monsters, Inc.
The Grand Floridian gingerbread house, a beloved tradition since 1999, has also been retired for good. Although initially thought to be temporary, Disney confirmed its permanent closure due to changes in the resort's lobby and the addition of the Birdcage Bar.
