Disney World Expansion: Why You May Want to Wait Until 2028
Disney World is gearing up for a major expansion in 2027, with several new projects set to open across its Florida resort. This includes a new land at Disney's Animal Kingdom, called Tropical Americas, which will feature the community of Pueblo Esperanza.
In addition to this new land, other areas such as Disney's Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom will also be getting major updates. Monstropolis, a land based on the Monsters Inc franchise, will start opening in phases at Hollywood Studios, while Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress will return to Magic Kingdom with a new opening scene featuring a Walt Disney animatronic.
Disney's Lakeshore Lodge will also begin welcoming overnight guests near Bay Lake. While these updates may sound exciting for families who haven't visited recently, they could create a vacation environment that regular visitors may prefer to avoid. The increased demand surrounding major openings could put pressure on hotel availability and prices during popular periods.
Disney has already opened vacation bookings and ticket pricing through October 31, 2027, with one-day tickets reaching $219 for Magic Kingdom on the highest-priced dates. Families should consider everything else they need to budget for, such as hotels, meals, snacks, merchandise, transportation, and other vacation expenses.
