Disney World Hotel Room Fails Solo Disabled Guest
A solo disabled traveler at Walt Disney World Resort encountered multiple accessibility issues in her hotel room. Andrea Dalzell, a disability rights activist and nurse, documented her experience on video, highlighting problems such as a broken grab bar, manual curtains that were difficult to reach from a seated position, a coffee maker placed high on a television console, and a thermostat with controls positioned far away.
Dalzell alleged that a cast member told her Disney doesn't expect solo disabled travelers because they need help. This assumption was met with widespread criticism, as many pointed out that it's not the guest's responsibility to bring someone else for assistance.
Disney eventually moved Dalzell to a different room, which she said is better, and also provided her with a complimentary gift bag. However, this resolution came after a viral video and an exhausting stretch of self-advocacy for Dalzell.
