Disney World Ponders Fifth Theme Park Amidst Record-Setting Expansion Plans

Walt Disney World has been expanding its operations in recent years, but one question that has long fascinated visitors is whether the resort will ever add a fifth theme park. According to a planning document released by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), the answer may be yes.

The CFTOD's Comprehensive Plan 2045, which was made public in September 2025, deemed several currently undeveloped locations as 'suitable' for development across Walt Disney World property. These include areas near Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney's Animal Kingdom, as well as a small sliver north of Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom.

The document also noted that Disney has the ability to build up to one new 'major theme park' by 2035, with an additional 'minor theme park' allowed by 2045. However, it emphasized that there were 'no plans under review' for any new major or minor theme parks as of September 2025.

Despite the potential for a fifth Disney World theme park, it's unclear whether Disney will actually pursue this option. The company has been focusing on large-scale expansions to existing parks, such as Villains Land and Piston Peak National Park at Magic Kingdom, Monstropolis at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Tropical Americas at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
