Disney World Railroad Closes for Extended Period Amid Ongoing Construction
The Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom has been added to the park's refurbishment calendar for an extended closure starting on September 28, 2026. The exact reason for this closure is not specified by Disney.
This closure comes after a series of changes made to the railroad over the past year. In July 2025, the train stopped running its full loop around Magic Kingdom due to construction on the Cars and Disney Villains Land expansions in Frontierland. Since then, the train has been operating as a shuttle between Main Street, U.S.A. and Storybook Circus stations, with a travel time of about 5 minutes each way.
The addition of Stitch-themed audio to the ride took place on July 7, 2025, which also saw changes made to the seating inside the train cars, allowing passengers to choose between sitting facing forward or backward. The full loop is expected to resume once the new lands are open, but a specific date has not been given.
