Disney World Storm Forces Ride Closures and EPCOT Evacuation
A severe storm swept through Walt Disney World on August 22, 2026, causing chaos and disruptions to park operations. The rainstorm brought torrential downpours, severe lightning, and heavy winds that forced the closure of outdoor rides across all four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom.
Guests were sent scrambling for cover as social media lit up with footage of flooded walkways and stranded tourists. The storm's impact was felt throughout the day, with popular attractions like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Slinky Dog Dash, and Expedition Everest shutting down due to safety concerns.
However, the most notable incident occurred at EPCOT, where a sudden fire alarm triggered a mass evacuation of The Land Pavilion in the middle of the storm. Hundreds of guests were forced to exit the building, only to be sent back out into the pouring rain. Fortunately, there were no reports of an actual fire or injuries.
Disney has not released an official statement on what triggered the fire alarm, but experts suggest it could have been caused by a harmless factor such as a kitchen mishap or system malfunction.
