Disney World Undergoes Mass Closures for Major Transformations

Walt Disney World is undergoing significant transformations across its theme parks and hotels. The resort has announced that 18 locations are currently closed or under refurbishment, affecting various aspects of guest experiences.

The Magic Kingdom is going through major changes, with the Carousel of Progress attraction closed for a major refurbishment until 2027. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat have permanently closed to make way for Disney's upcoming Cars-inspired addition, Piston Peak, in Frontierland.

Hollywood Studios is also undergoing significant changes, with several areas closed or under refurbishment. The Animation Courtyard has been transformed, with new experiences opening up, including Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! and character encounters. However, Muppets Courtyard is currently behind construction walls as Disney prepares the area for its Monsters, Inc.-inspired replacement.

EPCOT is also affected by refurbishment work, with La Signature in the France Pavilion closed until further notice, and the majority of the Volkskunst shop in Germany temporarily closed for backstage Cast Member bathroom renovations. The Animal Kingdom has lost DinoLand U.S.A., which was officially closed to make way for a new Tropical Americas area.

Disney's hotels are also getting hit with closures and construction projects, including refurbishment work at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, Old Key West Resort, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary Resort. Restaurants and entertainment locations are also affected, including Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club Resort and several venues at Disney's BoardWalk.
