Disney World Unveils Major Expansion Plans with New Lands and Attractions
Walt Disney World is set for a major expansion over the next few years, with several new lands and attractions announced at the D23 fan convention. Villains Land, comparable in size to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, will be located within Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland. The land will feature two main attractions: A Maleficent Coaster and a dark ride hosted by the Magic Mirror.
The backstory of Villains Land revolves around an evil wish made at a Wishing Well, which corrupted the stone and spread poisoned magic throughout the forest. This setting is perfect for villains who seek to claim the last of the Wishing Well's power. The land will be shaped by those who have used this dark magic to conjure new lairs for themselves.
Another major announcement was the expansion of Piston Peak National Park, which will feature a Cars-themed area located within Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. The park will include two attractions: Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along and Cars Ridge Run Rally. The latter promises to take guests through America's national parks to find 'the wildest racer in the wheelderness.'
Disney also announced several new additions to its Animal Kingdom, including a reimagined Journey into Imagination with Figment attraction and an Indiana Jones-themed ride called Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. The latter will replace the Dinosaur ride, which closed earlier this year.
