Disney Worldbuilders Documentary Offers Glimpse into Disneyland Abu Dhabi's Creative Process
Disney's upcoming documentary 'Disney Worldbuilders' will provide an exclusive look at the company's creative process and its latest project, Disneyland Abu Dhabi. The film, directed by Oscar- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, explores how Disney stories come to life as immersive attractions and experiences.
The documentary features interviews with current Disney chief executive Josh D'Amaro, along with other creative figures such as James Cameron, Kevin Feige, Pete Docter, Jon Favreau, and Jennifer Lee. It delves into the history of Disney's storytelling process, revealing that many of these creatives point back to a single childhood moment, walking through Disneyland's gates and realizing their dreams could become reality.
The film also shines a light on new lands and resorts currently in development around the world, including the highly anticipated Disneyland Abu Dhabi. The park is being developed by Miral on Yas Island under Disney's 'capital-light' business model, where Miral will fully fund, build, and operate the resort while Disney oversees creative development and receives royalties.
Disneyland Abu Dhabi was announced in May 2025 and is expected to feature themed accommodation, retail, dining, and entertainment. Former Disney chief Bob Iger described it as being 'authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati.'
