Disney Worldbuilders Documentary Sheds Light on the Magic Behind Iconic Franchises
A new documentary titled Disney Worldbuilders is set to debut on August 20th on Disney+, offering an exclusive look into the creative process behind some of Disney's most beloved stories. The feature-length film, directed by Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, showcases candid conversations with influential storytellers such as Bob Iger, James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, Jennifer Lee, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush, and Josh D'Amaro. These Disney visionaries share how stories from Avatar, Star Wars, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, Frozen, and Zootopia come to life in real places.
The documentary not only highlights the creative breakthroughs that shaped their work but also reveals a common thread among these storytellers: their childhood memories of visiting Disneyland. Leslie Iwerks said she wanted to understand what ignites the imaginations of these creatives, and as she sat down with each of them, she discovered this shared experience.
Disney Worldbuilders will have its world premiere at D23 on August 16th before its release on Disney+, giving attendees a first look at the film. Iwerks is no stranger to Disney fandom, having directed previous documentaries such as The Imagineering Story and The Pixar Story. Her latest project is produced by Iwerks & Co. for Disney+.
