Disneyland Revamps Tomorrowland with Original Vision
Disneyland is embarking on its third major overhaul of Tomorrowland since its opening in 1955. The reimagining will focus on bringing Walt Disney's original vision to life, featuring new attractions and open spaces with a focus on immersive storytelling and emotional experiences.
The project aims to respect the heritage and legacy of Tomorrowland while continuing to evolve the land for new generations. Imagineering has already begun imagining what Tomorrowland could be at Disneyland using Walt Disney's original vision as 'our guidepost and our North Star.'
Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino acknowledged that today's Tomorrowland 'feels a bit tired' and has 'very little tomorrow.' The construction wall that has stood at the entrance of Tomorrowland since 2019 is even joked to be soon be of legal drinking age.
The makeover will likely begin with an Autopia update and could include a refreshed Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Space Mountain facelift, and even a return of the Carousel of Progress. Imagineering has been updating the Buzz Lightyear attractions at other Disney parks, including Florida's Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland.
The reimagining is expected to be completed with an Autopia update early next year, which will include fully electric vehicles replacing gas engines. The project will also see a refreshed Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Space Mountain facelift, and possibly the return of the Carousel of Progress.
