Disney's $1 Billion Game Franchises Include Kingdom Hearts
Disney's recent announcement of a D23 deep dive panel for Kingdom Hearts has shed light on the franchise's value to the company. As part of its Disney Games Group portfolio, Kingdom Hearts is one of nine franchises worth over $1 billion.
In an interview, EVP of Global Games and Digital Entertainment at Disney, Sean Shoptaw, discussed how games are a key component of the company's future strategy. He emphasized that games have become a foundational part of the entertainment landscape, saying 'The way Disney is shaping the future of interactive entertainment through games is really acknowledging that games have become a foundational part of the broader entertainment landscape.'
Shoptaw highlighted the success of Disney's game portfolio, stating that it has built a 'really foundational footprint in games today' with nine games grossing over $1 billion at retail. He also mentioned upcoming titles, including Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls and Marvel's Wolverine.
