Disney's Dark Secrets: Films the Studio Hopes You'll Forget

The Walt Disney Company has a legacy of producing beloved films that have stood the test of time. However, not every movie produced by the studio has been a critical or commercial success. In fact, there are several Disney movies that the studio would rather forget.

One such film is 'Bringing Down the House' (2003), a comedy starring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah. The movie perpetuates racist stereotypes and relies on cringe-worthy jokes about Black women. Despite its cast of talented performers, including Eugene Levy, the film falls flat and reinforces negative tropes.

Another Disney movie that has become an embarrassment to the studio is 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' (2010). This adventure film was based on a popular video game series and starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton as the leads. However, the movie engaged in egregious whitewashing by excluding anyone from the Middle East in its principal cast.

The studio's Touchstone Pictures division released 'Holy Matrimony' (1994), a comedy that centers around an adult woman marrying a 12-year-old boy to secure a $12 million fortune. The premise is unspeakably creepy and the film's schmaltzy mainstream comedy sensibilities only make it more regrettable.

'An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn' (1998) is another satirical disaster that tries to skewer Hollywood but fails miserably. With a title employing a common pseudonym for directors who didn't want credit, the film is a mess of celebrity cameos and attempted humor.
