Disney's Frontierland Undergoes Radical Transformation
Disney World's Magic Kingdom has been undergoing significant changes to its Frontierland area. Over the past few years, more than 30% of the land's classic experiences have been removed or permanently closed. This includes attractions such as Splash Mountain, which was transformed into Tiana's Bayou Adventure in 2024, and the Rivers of America, which were closed in 2025 to make way for the construction of Piston Peak National Park.
The removal of these classic experiences has left a noticeable impact on the area. The original Country Bear Jamboree was replaced by a new version called Country Bear Musical Jamboree in 2024, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad underwent a major overhaul in 2026. Even smaller locations such as Westward Ho Refreshments have been permanently closed.
The construction of Piston Peak National Park is reshaping a massive section of the area, and two Frontierland survivors have already undergone significant updates. The railroad station for the Walt Disney World Railroad has been out of service since 2025 due to construction. While Piston Peak will eventually fill much of the space left behind, bringing an entirely new generation of attractions into Magic Kingdom.
