Disney's Gaming Efforts Pay Off with Over $1 Billion in Revenue
Disney's video game division has seen significant success in recent years, with at least nine games grossing over $1 billion. This comes after the company shifted its focus towards partnering with external publishers and reviving its internal studios. The growth is attributed to Disney's investment in Epic Games and a suite of licensed titles.
According to Sean Shoptaw, EVP of Global Games and Digital Entertainment at Disney, 9 games have grossed over $1 billion at retail. This includes major releases such as Marvel's Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as mobile games like Marvel Snap and Strike Force.
Disney has reported driving an estimated $3.5 billion in annual consumer spending over the past four years. The company is expected to continue its success with upcoming releases, including Insomniac's Wolverine and a rumored Venom game.
