Disney's Hollywood Studios Adds Whimsical Animation Experience
Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World is undergoing significant changes this year. The park has already seen several new additions, including the return of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster with Muppets and the introduction of Monstropolis in 2027.
The latest addition is The Magic of Disney Animation, which opened on September 14. This experience replaces Star Wars Launch Bay and offers four distinct experiences under one roof. One of these experiences is Olaf Draws, an animation class where guests can learn to draw iconic Disney animated characters with the help of a brand-new Audio-Animatronic figure.
Another experience is Off the Page Character Greetings at Hollywood Studios. This unique character meet-up features real animators from different departments, such as Story, Layout, Hand-Drawn Animation, Computer Animation, Lighting, and Effects. Guests can meet characters in settings inspired by classic Disney animation techniques, like Rapunzel in a multiplane camera setting.
The Magic of Disney Animation also includes Drawn to Wonderland Playground, an indoor play area designed for the youngest guests. This whimsical space features oversized flower gardens with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party play set, and a Tugley Wood exploration area, all inspired by Mary Blair's original concept art for Alice in Wonderland.
The final experience is The Once Upon A Studio Theater, which presents the Emmy Award-winning short film Once Upon A Studio. This presentation includes enhanced effects that add an extra layer to the viewing experience. Characters may pop up within the artwork along the theater walls, placing guests inside the story rather than simply watching it.
This new addition directly addresses the park's reputation for being built for thrill-seekers and provides families with small children more options. The Magic of Disney Animation is a welcome change to the park and fills out the Walt Disney Studios Lot, which replaced the former Animation Courtyard in 2026.
