Disney's Live-Action Reference Secrets on Display at Muzeo
A new exhibition at Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim, California explores the art of live-action reference in animation. The exhibit, titled 'Capturing Life, Creating Character: The Art of Live Action Reference', is a partnership between Muzeo and the Walt Disney Archives. It runs from August 8 to November 1, 2026.
The exhibition delves into how live-action reference enhances animation, including fluid movement, realistic clothing and fabric, believable character performances with props, and accurate proportions and behaviors for animals. Rare archival photos of live performers and their animated counterparts are featured alongside interactive elements.
Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline was on hand to preview the exhibit. D23 members will receive exclusive benefits during the run of the exhibition, including discounted admission and access to special programs and events. The exhibit is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
