Disney's Magic of Animation Unveiled at Hollywood Studios
The Magic of Disney Animation attraction is set to debut on September 14 at Disney's Hollywood Studios, offering an immersive experience that celebrates the world of animation. The area is inspired by 'Once Upon a Studio,' a character-heavy short film released in 2023 as part of Walt Disney Co.'s centennial celebrations.
The new attraction includes multiple interactive features and activities, such as Drawn to Wonderland, an indoor playground with concept art-inspired design, and Olaf Draws, where guests can take art lessons from animatronic figures like Olaf. The area also features meeting areas with backdrops representing various animation processes and a 9-minute screening of 'Once Upon a Studio.'
Danny Handke, senior creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, explained that the attraction's backstory revolves around Mickey and his friends throwing an open house while the animators are out to lunch. This concept allows guests to explore the world of animation in an immersive and engaging way.
Disney animator Eric Goldberg noted that teaching guests how to draw characters like Genie from 'Aladdin' is a unique experience, as he gets to share his technique with visitors. The attraction also incorporates interactive games using motion sensing technology, allowing guests to engage with their favorite Disney characters in new and exciting ways.
