Disney's Monstropolis Theme Land Brings Boo-tiful Thrills to Hollywood Studios
Walt Disney World in Florida is building a new theme land called Monstropolis, inspired by Pixar's hit comedy-adventure film Monsters, Inc. The area will be located in Disney's Hollywood Studios and feature a suspended coaster, several dining locations, and a theater show.
The coaster, dubbed the door coaster, will suspend guests 40 feet in the air, mimicking the film's Door Warehouse. It will combine thrills and theatrics, with an opening scene that takes riders straight into the laugh floor. The idea is to harness both laughs and screams, with laughter being even more powerful than screams.
Monstropolis will also feature a new show at the Glob Theater, which will introduce guests to the world of monsters. The show will include a new original song from composer Randy Newman, his first written exclusively for a Disney theme park.
The entire land is built around 'H.U.M.A.N. Day,' a citywide celebration that brings humans into the monster world for the first time. This event will be part of the theme land's immersive experience, which draws inspiration from immersive theater and optical illusions.
