DLSS 5 Leaked Build Brings Significant Visual Improvements, But at What Cost?
Nvidia's highly anticipated DLSS 5 has been leaked and tested on an RTX 40-series card, specifically the RTX 4070 Ti Super. The modding community has made it possible to run the latest release on this hardware, which was not originally intended for the feature.
The author of the article, Abhinav, decided to test DLSS 5 using a leaked build and ran it through three games: Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, Hogwarts Legacy, and another title not specified. The results were surprising, with DLSS 5 providing significant visual improvements in all three games.
In GTA V Enhanced, the author noticed an undeniable improvement to visual depth, NPCs, characters, weather effects, and reflective surfaces. The city's motion was also enhanced, making it feel more realistic. However, the performance cost of DLSS 5 was around 36-38% average FPS and a further 31-36% hit on 1% lows.
In Hogwarts Legacy, the author realized that getting accustomed to neural rendering would make it hard to go back to native graphics. The game's colors were richer without oversaturation, stonework gained depth, and character models appeared more true-to-life. The performance penalty narrowed compared to GTA V Enhanced, with average FPS dropping by 28-35% depending on the model picked.
