Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology has been modified to run on RTX 40-series graphics cards, despite Nvidia's original intention for it to be exclusive to RTX 50-series GPUs. Modder Uncle Burrito successfully patched the leaked DLL to work with an RTX 4090, demonstrating the feature in the game Control.

The result shows a significant performance cost, with the RTX 4090 dropping from around 130 FPS to approximately 83 FPS when DLSS 5 Neural Rendering is enabled. This represents a roughly 36% reduction in frame rate, although it's worth noting that this is an experimental implementation and not a representative example of the finished technology.

Nvidia still has time to optimize DLSS 5 for RTX 40-series cards, but it remains unclear whether the company ever planned to support it on these architectures. The current implementation relies on a leaked DLL and requires community modifications rather than proper integration by game developers.
