Dominican Bank Boosts Risk Analysis with 7X Capacity Using Microsoft
Banco Popular Dominicano's risk analysis process was overwhelmed by its own growth. The bank had thousands of processes, and as it scaled up, manual reviews became insufficient to keep pace with operational risks. 'There are more and more risks, more controls, and more processes,' explained Felipe Suárez, Executive Vice President of Integrated Risk Management. 'Without the use of artificial intelligence and automation tools, it would be impossible to maintain effective monitoring and management of the risks we face.'
The bank decided to completely overhaul its approach to risk management, treating AI as a core capability rather than just a trend. This led to the development of AURA (Agents, Automation, and Real-time Monitoring), an ecosystem of agents that automates operational risk management using Microsoft Power Platform, Copilot Studio, and other tools.
AURA's agents interpret events, execute analyses, and coordinate responses within an integrated model. The solution works as a coordinated architecture, with Power Automate orchestrating workflows and Power BI providing continuous monitoring. Teams interact directly with AURA through Microsoft Teams, enabling real-time event, validation, and action management.
The bank's risk area has transformed from manual process to institutional capacity, achieving full coverage and timely response to changes in risks.
