Doom Gets an Unlikely Platform in Microsoft Paint
Mark Russinovich, Microsoft Azure's CTO, has found an unusual way to play Doom - using Microsoft Paint. The humble drawing app has received several upgrades in recent years, but this is a new use case altogether. Instead of running the game directly, Russinovich's tool, called DoomPaint, loads rendered frames into the app from the Windows clipboard at 35fps.
This method allows players to experience Doom without actually running the game itself. It's not clear how widely applicable this approach is or whether it has any practical applications beyond curiosity. However, it does demonstrate the versatility of Microsoft Paint and the creativity of users who experiment with its capabilities.
