Dorset Teams Unite to Move 35-Tonne Boeing 737
A Boeing 737 plane weighing 35 tonnes was pulled by 35 teams of 20 people each at Bournemouth Airport on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31. The event, known as the Dorset Plane Pull, aims to raise money for charity and has so far raised over £400,000 since its inception in 2009.
The plane pull is an annual event that brings together businesses, groups, organisations, families, and friends to represent various charities. This year's event saw teams competing to see who could pull the plane the fastest while raising money for their respective charities.
Organiser Kyrie Griffin said: 'Today is not just about the money, it's about awareness.' She added that her mother had passed away from motor-neuron disease and this charity was close to her heart.
Home Start Wessex, a charity that provides support to vulnerable and disadvantaged families, participated in the event with three teams. Darren Lewis, community fundraising and events officer, said: 'Home Start helped us when we had twins 19 years ago, so now it's time to give back.'
