The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 140.15 points on Monday to close at 53,417.16, as falling oil prices eased inflation concerns and boosted buying across a range of stocks.

The Dow's gain came despite a decline in the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite, which fell 200.26 points to 25,980.19, as investors adopted a wait-and-see stance ahead of Nvidia's quarterly earnings release on August 26th.

Falling oil prices and lower long-term interest rates provided support for the Dow, while the market reaction to tightened sanctions against Iran announced by the U.S. Treasury Department was limited.
