Dow Futures Surge to Near 54,000 Amid Weaker Job Numbers and Lower Yields
The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose to near 54,000 as investors reacted to weak employment reports and lower Treasury yields. The September 2026 Dow futures contract traded at around 54,020, with a year-to-date gain of 11.99%. This surge can be attributed to the reduced expectations for an immediate Federal Reserve rate increase following the weaker jobs report.
The Nasdaq Composite rose by 1.30%, while the Nasdaq 100 increased by 1.19%. Technology stocks such as Nvidia, Amazon, and Microsoft led the gains, with prices rising 1.58%, 1.68%, and 0.63% respectively. However, not all technology stocks performed well, with some companies underperforming in the Dow index.
The economic outlook has become increasingly significant following poor job numbers and lower Treasury yields. The U.S. two-year treasury yields dropped to 4.202%, while 10-year yields have fallen to 4.656%. Expectations for interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve have been dashed, and markets now expect the Fed funds rate to be kept at 3.50%-3.75%.
