Dow Jumps 382 Points as Market Seeks Clarity on Fed Policy
The US stock market showed signs of recovery on Friday, August 21, after a steep decline in the previous day. The Dow Jones Index gained 382.83 points, or 0.73%, to 53,142.04, while the Nasdaq Index advanced by 93.72 points, or 0.36%, to 26,160.89.
The S&P 500 Index rose by 36.22 points, or 0.47%, to 7,677.3, indicating a tentative rebound in the market. The recovery was attributed to buying activity in stocks and a weaker dollar, which enhanced risk appetites.
However, experts warned that the market remains vulnerable to renewed selling due to high treasury rates, elevated oil prices, and uncertainty about Fed policy. The US government's debt has crossed $40 trillion, while annual interest costs have risen above $1 trillion, adding to concerns about the long-term fiscal outlook.
