Dow Rises as Oil Prices Fall, but Tech Stocks Struggle with China Chip Fears
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5% on Monday, buoyed by weakness in oil prices and support from industrial and material stocks.
However, concerns about China's development of deep ultraviolet lithography machines used to build semiconductors weighed on the Nasdaq and S&P 500 indices, with tech stocks taking a hit.
The Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.3%, while the S&P 500 ended flat.
The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) fell 2% for the third straight session, pulled down by weakness in Nvidia (NVDA), AMD (AMD), and ASML Holdings (ASML).
