Dow Sees 178-Point Swing as Apple, Home Depot Offset by Microsoft and Chevron
The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a swing of 178 points in Monday's live session, driven by four key stocks. The index initially dropped 47.43 points to 53,989.50 due to a decline in Apple shares, but was offset by gains from Microsoft and Chevron.
Apple's share price fell 2.1% after Jefferies Financial Group downgraded the stock to Underperform from Hold, reducing its price target to $263.66. Home Depot also slid 1.9%, pulling the Dow down further.
In contrast, Microsoft shares rose alongside oil prices, which surged 3.06% to $86.11 due to uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz's reopening. Chevron's stock climbed as a result, adding approximately 98 points to the index.
The combined influence of these four stocks resulted in a counteracting effect of around 178 points, with Apple and Home Depot shaving off close to 80 points, while Microsoft and Chevron added about 98 points. The Dow ultimately ended almost unchanged, trading at 54,001.02 by 12:01 p.m. ET.
