Dow Smashes Through 54,700 Amid Iran Deal Optimism
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) continues to reach new heights, closing above 54,700 on Thursday amid optimism over a potential US-Iran peace deal. The blue-chip index has surged to a new all-time high of 54,349.12, marking its fifth consecutive positive session and its 24th record close this year.
The rally is driven by growing confidence in the economic outlook and expectations of sustained profitability. Corporate earnings have also been strong, with three-quarters of S&P 500 companies having reported results so far, showing a 50% profit growth expectation when all reports are finalized.
Healthcare and industrial stocks have performed well, led by companies such as Amgen, Merck, and Parker-Hannifin. Financials, including JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, also contributed to the Dow's record performance.
The proposed US-Iran agreement would give Tehran control over ships entering the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, which could lead to lower energy costs and improved risk appetite. However, President Donald Trump has suggested that a deal could be reached soon, but there have been many stops and starts during the five-month-old conflict.
