Dow Suffers Sharpest Single-Session Decline Since May Amid US-Iran Tensions
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed at 53,185.90 points on August 31, down 374.09 points from Friday's close of 53,559.99.
This decline made the blue-chip index the weakest performer among the three major US benchmarks, behind a 0.33% drop in the S&P 500 and a 0.12% decline in the Nasdaq Composite.
The Dow opened at 53,462.60, which also stood as its high for the day, before a sharp sell-off to 53,123.62 due to US-Iran headlines.
Goldman Sachs and Alphabet led the decliners, with Alphabet falling around 2.5% and Amazon close to 1.7%. Boeing declined over 1%, as industrial and aerospace names came under pressure.
