Dow Surges 490 Points Amid Cryptocurrency and Digital Asset Price Rises
The US stock market rally is gaining momentum on August 21, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up nearly 500 points. At noon hour, the Dow was at 53,183, a 0.80% increase from the day's start.
The S&P 500 index and Nasdaq Composite are also rising, with gains of 46.15 points (0.60%) and 160 points (0.60%), respectively.
The rally comes after several days of decline, but the three main indices are still on pace for a weekly loss due to higher Treasury yields and crude oil prices.
Certain sectors are performing better than others, with healthcare stocks like Eli Lilly (LLY) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) up about 2%. Cryptocurrency-related stocks such as Robinhood Markets (HOOD), Coinbase Global (COIN), and Strategy (MSTR) have surged more than 5% in response to rising digital asset prices.
Bitcoin's price has risen over 20% in two days, reaching $77,000 at midday. This increase is partly attributed to President Donald Trump's call for Congress to pass the Clarity Act legislation, which would provide a regulatory roadmap for digital assets.
