Dow Surmounts 54,000 Barrier as Caterpillar Drives Rally
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 54,000 for the first time on August 4th, reaching a record high of 54,085.88 after gaining 907.47 points or 1.71%.
Caterpillar led the rally with an estimated contribution of approximately 276 points following its shares' gain of $46.51, which was largely driven by the company's earnings beat and stronger outlook.
The four largest contributors to the Dow's advance were Caterpillar, Goldman Sachs, IBM, and Cisco, accounting for around 57% of the 907.47-point increase.
