Dow Tumbles as Middle East Tensions Escalate
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed lower on Monday due to tensions in the Middle East. US forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers, prompting Tehran to retaliate with missile and drone strikes on bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
The index opened near 53,500 but quickly dropped into the 53,100 area before recovering around 150 points into the close. Oil prices rose, with crude up over 2% and Brent holding above $90 per barrel.
Energy stocks like Chevron were among the few gainers, while financials such as Goldman Sachs and Alphabet weighed on the index.
