Dow Tumbles on Inflation Fears as Nvidia Earnings Loom
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 113.52 points on July 26th, marking its first decline in four trading sessions. The index closed at 53,463.88, a 0.21% decrease from the previous day's close.
The fall was largely attributed to the release of the July U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, which rose by 3.7% year-over-year, exceeding market expectations. This uptick in inflation concerns pushed long-term interest rates higher and sparked selling in equities.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite also declined, closing down 21.10 points at 26,130.20. The anticipation of Nvidia's earnings release weighed on the broader market as investors sought to gauge the trajectory of AI-related demand.
