Druckenmiller Dumps Chip Stocks for Robotics-Focused AI Plays
Stanley Druckenmiller, known for his exceptional investment track record, has made some significant moves in the second quarter. The billionaire investor sold two chip stocks, Intel (INTC) and Micron Technology (MU), which have been major winners this year.
The reasoning behind these sales is likely due to the strong run-up in prices, with both companies benefiting from demand for CPUs and memory in the AI revolution. Druckenmiller's fund, Duquesne Family Office, may believe it's time to take profits after the significant gains in these stocks.
On the other hand, Druckenmiller loaded up on two robotics-focused AI plays: Tesla (TSLA) and Amazon (AMZN). The fund purchased call options on Tesla with a notional value of nearly $53 million and increased its position in Amazon tenfold. Amazon is now one of the top 10 holdings in the portfolio.
Tesla's autonomous robotaxi fleet has been operating in seven cities, and the company claims to have a cost advantage when it comes to building robotaxis. Meanwhile, Amazon has already integrated robots into its warehouses and fulfillment processes, which is expected to trim billions in expenses in the coming years.
